How to Make Your Grant Stand Out

Learn about small changes you can make to increase your chance of getting approved and make your grant stand out to a funder. Check out the video below.

What Makes Your Grant Stand Out

  • Setting a meeting with the funder before submitting an application. Check out the Key Questions to ask a Funder resource here. Seek their guidance.

  • Plan ahead and do the background work. Plan out your project in detail, talk to the communities you serve, and seek out partnerships.

  • Be clear and concise. There's a reason funders use those pesky character counts. How can you say more with less?

  • Don't assume funders know who you are . You never know whose sitting at the reviewer table.

  • Collaborate. Collaborate. Collaborate.

  • Share your urgency. Why is your project needed now? In comparison to other applicants why is your project needed?

  • Present a viable project. This is demonstrated by your budget. Know where other funding is coming from.

Bonus points if your organization makes a financial contribution.

  • Submit a complete application. Simple yet effective ;)

  • Get some expert advice or expertise.

  • Build your skillset.
